Since the end of August 2022, the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) and the Indonesian Pediatric Association (IDAI) have received reports of a sharp increase in cases of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) in children. As of October 18, 2022, 189 cases have been reported, the most dominated by 1-5 year olds.
Along with the increase, the Ministry of Health asked parents not to panic, calm down but always be vigilant. Especially if the child experiences symptoms that lead to acute kidney failure such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fever for 3-5 days, cough, runny nose, frequent drowsiness and the amount of urine / small water is getting less and even unable to urinate at all.
"Continue to monitor the health of our children. If the child experiences complaints that lead to acute kidney failure, you should immediately consult a health worker. Do not delay or seek self-medication," urged Acting Director of Referral Health Services dr. Yanti Herman, MH. Kes, quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.
From the existing data, the symptoms that appear at the beginning are related to gastrointestinal infections, the main one for which the Ministry of Health urges as a preventive measure so that parents continue to ensure that clean and healthy living behaviors are still applied, make sure handwashing is still applied, eat a balanced nutritious diet, do not snack carelessly, drink boiled water and ensure that children's immunizations are routine and continue to be equipped.
In addition, the Ministry of Health has also issued a Decree of the Director General of Health Services Number HK.02.02./2/I/3305/2022 concerning The Management and Clinical Management of Atypical Progressive Acute Kidney Injury in Children in Health Service Facilities as part of increasing vigilance.
This decree contains a series of activities carried out by medical personnel and other health workers in treating acute kidney failure patients in accordance with medical indications.
Until now, this case is still being followed up by the medical side.
